I've been eating a lot of omelets lately. Partly because they're quick and I've been uninspired (except for an unfulfilled urge to make chicken stock and matzo balls... this desire will hopefully be addressed on Sunday). And I'm frustrated because I don't have perfect omelet technique. I mean I can make one well enough, but it never comes out of the pan perfect. This is not entirely my fault, as my kitchen is ill-equipped, but stillllll. Anyway, my favorite filling is caramelized shallots, ham, mushrooms and brie. 80 cent Euro Shopper brie is a beautiful thing... it sucks to eat just as cheese, but is really good for cooking.
I'm basically based out of the Kunsthistorisch Instituut these days, which seems sort of ironic. I like the building, and the library is one of the nicer ones (especially compared to the philosophy library, which is just a crap place despite what it contains). Anyway, I went to photocopy an assignment there today, and it turned out that it was something I already had a copy of. I was irritated that I dragged my ass over there for no reason, so I photocopied something else. I considered asking the librarian what the Dutch research library classification system was called, but was too embarassed and didn't, but now I wish I did. I'm jealous of Nicole's plans to go to library school, and sad that I don't have more books to enter into Librarything, which is my current OCD obsession (although, Nicole has it worse then I do). I can't tell you why creating an internet catalog of my books is needed, useful, or entertaining... it just is. I'm also the same person who has strong feelings attached to different systems of citation, so it shouldn't be so surprising that such a thing would be amazing to me.
I'm currently amusing myself with Dutch cultural history (The Embarrassment of Riches). You know there was a prison on the Heiligeweg? Apparently parents could have their children locked up there if they were bad. Haha. I think this is some twisted incarnation of interest in the country I live in. I don't have much interest in the people or the language, and definitely not the cuisine... but for some reason, the history is fun? Whatever, its sort of weird, but also pretty typical of me.

Re: Library Thing
Yup. But now I miss the books that are boxed and in my parents basement terribly.September 30 2005, 05:00:31 UTC 6 years ago
i looked at librarything and it made me sad, given that all my books are halfway across the world. my happiest varsity job was when the linguistics department paid me to catalogue and organise their small little library.
